Emphysema is a chronic respiratory disease where there is an over-inflation of the alveoli due to a loss of lung elasticity. This results in the trapping of air within the lung and poor gas exchange. This loss of lung elastance can be measured directly using the EMMS eSpira™ system, pulmonary mechanics, or indirectly using non-invasive airway mechanics.
