Plethysmography involves the placement of a subject within a chamber. While in this chamber the subject will produce heat, humidity and carbon dioxide (CO2). This environment will prove toxic to a subject over time. To counteract this natural build-up, EMMS provides a selection of bias flow air supplies. These systems utilise negative or positive pressure to ensure a flow of cool, dry room air through the chamber, preventing the accumulation of CO2, heat and humidity. The most important feature of these bias flow air supplies is that they have minimal flow noise, as flow noise degrades the measured respiratory signal.
